Cargo

Cargo

We provide expert services for cargo damage & cargo liquefaction. There are many types of cargo carried at sea. LOC’s personnel have command experience with bulk liquid and solid cargoes, chemical and gas tankers, passenger ferries and liners, offshore construction vessels and a broad range of container ships and general cargo vessels, among others.

We will attend to investigate the cause of an incident, the extent of the damage, and possible mitigation.  Our investigations and expert advice cover oil, chemical and gas contamination and any shortages caused; damage and loss of containers, including analysis of lashing forces due to vessel motions; bulk cargoes, including their damage, hold cleaning and stowage issues; general/break bulk cargoes, including steel cargoes, project cargoes and bagged cargoes; heavy lift or project cargoes and lashing or sea-fastening failures; roll-on roll-off cargoes; and refrigerated cargoes.

LOC is able to provide expert advice on disputes arising from the liquefaction of bulk cargoes, such as mineral ores, and give written and/or oral expert evidence as required.

The liquefaction of solid bulk cargo has become a global safety concern in shipping and there are numerous disputes regarding cargo liquefaction which culminate in litigation proceedings either in High Court or Arbitration Hearings. Our expertise is supplemented by the provision of expert geo-technical advice to the IMO, as well as reviewing the latest amendments to the IMSBC (International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes) Code for bulk cargoes.
