Fixed Object

LOC’s maritime civil engineers have been instructed on over 2000 fixed object damage (FOD) investigation cases in more than 100 different countries around the world. ‘Fixed objects’ can be inshore and port structures such as quay walls, jetties, dolphins, bridges, breakwaters, and pipelines;  cargo-handling equipment such as loading arms, cranes, and conveyor belts; or offshore structures such as fixed and floating platforms and subsea pipelines; in short, any maritime structure or associated equipment.

Each incident is unique and our involvement varies from case to case, depending on the client’s requirements and the nature and extent of the damages.  Our engineers provide civil engineering consultancy services and expert advice to the P&I Clubs, insurance companies, lawyers and other members of the maritime engineering community.

Our team of experienced maritime civil engineers, supported by staff from other disciplines can support our clients to undertake initial site investigations to evaluate the cause and nature and extent of the damage, prepare expert reports for litigation and advise on the repair solutions, schedules and costs. We can advise on or manage both the temporary and permanent repairs to the damaged facility and source specialist new and second-hand cargo handling equipment to expedite the repair process. In addition our maritime civil engineers can provide advice on unsafe port claims and assess whether an FOD may have resulted from a shortcoming in the port or terminal infrastructure.
