Master Mariner Michael Riddell Appointed Member of the Special Casualty Representatives (SCR) Panel at Lloyd’s

LOC is pleased to announce the appointment of Master Mariner Michael Riddell as a member of the  Special Casualty Representative (SCR) Panel at Lloyd’s. Michael spent over 15 years in the shipping industry with particular expertise in Emergency Response and Wreck Removal projects, both operationally and with the various associated services within the Salvage Industry, as well as extensive involvement with the numerous aspects within the Maritime field.

Michael’s maritime career began  with Safmarine in South Africa, sailing on cargo, container and bulk vessels and twice being seconded to Port of Cape Town Container Terminal as the Safmarine Terminal Superintendent After obtaining his Class 1 Masters certificate, he carried out a number of global vessel deliveries for SMIT. This triggered his involvement in salvage, and he joined SVITZER Salvage on the opening of their office in Cape Town in 2005. By 2011 he was promoted to Salvage Master, involved in salvage operations globally, and continued with the Company until their restructuring in 2017. He joined LOC Singapore as a Master Mariner/Marine Consultant in November 2018.

Michael has recently been involved in the initial stages of the  STAR CENTURION salvage operation,  when the vessel sank earlier this year off Bintan, Indonesia and also in the investigation of the fire on board container vessel APL VANCOUVER.

Director of Shipping (SE Asia), Rutger Bierman, commented:

“We are delighted that Michael’s expertise and contribution to the shipping industry has been recognised with his appointment as a member of the Lloyd’s SCR panel. His extensive experience within the marine environment and of working on projects across the globe, particularly as a Salvage Master, will be a great asset to the panel. We look forward to supporting Michael in his new membership, and to his continued contribution as an integral part of the LOC Singapore shipping team.”
