LOC Consultant, Wei-Yang Tan presents on Investigating Fixed Object Damage at IG P&I Asia Correspondents Seminar

On 4th December 2019, LOC London Consultant Civil Engineer Wei-Yang Tan had the opportunity to present at the IG P&I Asia Correspondents Seminar 2019. This was the first International Group Regional Seminar for P&I Correspondents held in the Asia Pacific Region, at the Raffles City Convention Centre in Singapore.

Attended by approximately 250 correspondents from 63 countries and around 100 representatives from International Group Clubs, the event was presided by IG Chairman Paul Jennings, CEO of North P&I Club, IG Correspondents Subcommittee Garry Stevens, Associate Director of London P&I Club, and IG CEO Nick Shaw.

As part of the session on Collision, FFO and Pollution, chaired by Mr Shang Doe Shim, Deputy Regional Claims Director of The Standard Club Asia, Wei-Yang presented on a panel including Dr Karen Purnell, Managing Director of ITOPF and Dr Rene Angelo Machig, Consultant Scientist of Andrew Moore and Associates.

In his presentation, Investigating Fixed Object Damage (FOD), Wei-Yang provided an introduction to FOD, how and where these incidents can occur, and identified key factors that are involved in an allision. A few typical examples of FOD were also presented. These included the potential range of repair costs, followed by a review of an example claim. The presentation then concluded with the event’s catch-phrase, summarising on FOD assistance that collaboration with the IG Group and correspondents contributes to making us together ‘Collectively Stronger’.
