Innosea, part of AqualisBraemar LOC, are pleased to report on progress made on the COREWIND Project – COst REduction & Increase Performance of Floating Wind Production. COREWIND is a multi-national EU Horizon2020 project, which aims at achieving significant cost reductions and enhanced performance of floating wind technology via innovation, modelling and optimization of floater, mooring and dynamic cabling designs.

The project is led by IREC – Research and development specialists in energy transition, and includes other project partners including: Cobra, DTU, Equinor, Esteyco, IHCantabria, JDR Cables, Politechni of Milan, Ramboll, UL, University of Stuttgart, UPC and WindEurope.

Innosea’s role on the project focusses on the design and optimisation of station keeping systems (moorings and anchors). So far Innosea’s work has been focussed on the theoretical and concept design side of innovative solutions for optimised mooring systems. The emphasis in 2021 is on the analysis of the technological and cost benefit of peak load reduction systems and shared mooring lines and anchors.

Overall the project aims to prove the benefits of concrete-based floating sub-structure concepts, in obtaining a levelized cost of energy reduction of at least 15% compared to bottom-fixed offshore wind. It also reinforces Europe’s reputation as a leading player in the development of cutting-edge and highly competitive technology in offshore wind power, specifically in floating wind.

The project will hold its 2nd virtual information dissemination event on 25th February. This will discuss the project status with a review from the different project partners.
