LOC Korea extends surveying services to Offshore Wind Farm Project

LOC has clinched its first ever wind farm project work in the Asia Pacific region.

LOC in Korea has been jointly appointed by reinsurers Swiss Re and Korean Re as the marine warranty surveying service provider for the Tamra Wind Farm project.

This is the first offshore wind farm project in Korea located off the coast of Jeju Island about 0.5 – 1.0km from the shore.

“We are delighted to have a chance to work closely with Tamra Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., a local developer which is owned by Korea South East Power Co., Ltd., and the respected local manufacturer of wind turbine generators, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd.,” said Jonathan Walker, Regional Director of LOC.

“LOC continues to win work in new areas of business for the group across several different disciplines and this wind farm project is a first for us. We hope it will be the first of what could be a series of wind farm related project work in which we are able to demonstrate our expertise,” he added.

The project consists of 10 units of three-megawatts wind turbine generators which are being set on grounded jackets and which are expected to generate 82 gigawatts per year to supply the electricity power to Jeju Island, a popular holiday island, which lies in the Korea Straits.

As of now, the developer has completed the installation of the subsea cables and seven units of wind turbine generators.

Zhoongkeun Kim, Country Manager of LOC in Korea added: “The work progress is on schedule and our team will visit the site for surveying purposes towards the end of the project in early September. This is our first wind farm project and we hope to continue expanding our services to more renewable energy related projects”.
