We have extensive experience conducting condition surveys
Condition survey for vessels and equipment is used as a statement of fact and represents the status at a particular time. The survey will typically determine the working or operational condition of equipment and management systems, including its certification status. These surveys are normally requested by vessel or barge owners, charterers and insurance interests, including P&I Clubs.
On-hire or off-hire condition surveys will include consumables (for example bunker and water levels – ROBs). A short one page certificate signed by the attending parties will be prepared and issued. A thorough inspection report may be required that includes note of any damage or wear and tear around the vessel or barge. This would typically be a contract requirement in the charter-party and may support a claim between the owner and charterer at the contract end. As LOC is a well established, independent and impartial company, it will often act on behalf of both parties (owner and charterer) in these surveys.
LOC’s experience and expertise ensure that we are instructed by other interests to complete surveys and studies for due diligence and lay-up / re-activation surveys. Typically we conduct this work on behalf of finance and insurance interests.
Our personnel have extensive experience with condition surveys for a variety of clients and uses. Survey forms may be specified by clients, particularly in case of P&I clubs, and our surveyors are familiar with many of these forms. In addition, LOC maintains its own condition survey report format that can be tailored to suit the survey required and the vessel or barge type.
In some areas of the world LOC has trained personnel with appropriate ultrasonic equipment to check the integrity of hatch covers and other hold fittings on bulk and general cargo ships.
